All, as I was a newbie to flying a CUB few weeks back (still am) trying to think how to get my experiance over to other newbies:rolleyes: from getting the model, SIM training, first attempted flight (thrown and ground take off) more SIM training, do"s & dont"s, first crash, landing in a tree or two, :eek:until they acheive 5 or 6 perfect flights:) and then what?
Do you think this is a good idea?
Regards

Hi D,
I too am a new flyer of the Supercub, had it a while, but only got to fly it for real last weekend...
Here is a video - :D

Having spent hours on various simulators, Phoenix, Realflight G3.5, nothing prepares you for the real deal.
Heart was pounding, pulse racing...
Really, you just have to take it slow, and then decide when you are ready to let your baby go - if it falls, then you repair...
During my first flight, I crashed in to a tree, (did not get that on video), was a pain to get down again.
Then broke a propellor on the bumpy ground during take off.
But it was real fun and so exciting... show your friends my video. :)
Next time I will have my Flycamone2 attached, so can get aeriel video.
I think your description is pretty much spot on, also see if you can video the experience to show others...
Good luck,
Drew

Hey nice one;);. I had the same issue trying to take off that I decided to throw it. Like they say, full throttle and throw straight and only a little elevator at a time does the job. I used the RF 4 and downloaded a CUB file, this helped me big time. Helped stacks with landing but you dont have the fear of smashing it or looking like a dick when you crash:eek: I found going to the field when no one was around:cool:, worked for me.
Nice bike, I have the Intruder 1500.
Cheers

Yeah nothing prepares you for the feeling of trying to fly a model in real life, where there's no safety net and your skill alone is keeping the plane in the air. I actually quite like it when people watch my plane flying about... it gives me the feeling that I've made someones day! With any luck they will take up the hobby too. :)

Been playing with rotary aircraft for a while, so that really helped.
As you say its the landing thats tricky.
The Cub is brilliant though, as it almost floats in to the wind.
Intruder 1500? wow, monster machine... very nice.
Try recording a ride with the Flycamone2 in your helmet - :D

That is so true...
After the first flight, I was a gibbering reck... had to have a sit down and chill for 10 minutes, was shaking... :o
We had a couple of walkers that stopped and looked for a few minutes, but tried to ignore them...
Because I was not showing off, or doing tricks, they soon got bored and moved on...

Well just completed my 10th flight and no problems:). Still a bit tricky at landing but if your not ready go around again. I find that flying high for a while (75% power) and allowing the plane to slowly come down (batt lowering in power) you have plenty of time to land.
Cheers and good night.

Hi, can you just confirm with me:
NI-MH 8.4V 1000mAh gets charged at 1.0
NI-MH 8.4 V 1400mAh gets charged at 1.4 (just did this 55min to charge and 10 min fly time)
is this correct as the books always mention charge 1000mAh at 1.2
Thanks

I too thought the book said:
NI-MH 8.4 1000mAh gets 1.2 on the supplied charger?
And thats what I have used for the 4 charges done so far.
Think it took around 20-30 minutes?
Have just got a 1400 battery off Squadron Leader today, so would be interested in the setting, as I used the 1.2 charge rate.
Good post.

Hi I just charged the 1400mAh at 1.4 , took about 55 min but got 12min 45 sec flight at 85% - 100% throttle.:)
Cheeers
One thing I'd suggest to newbies from my own experience with the super cub is to use Spitfire propellers on it as its much more flexible than the stock super cub propeller. I snapped both the propellers that came with my super cub within the first 5 flights, just from taxiing on grass! I've not managed break the spitfire propeller since i've put it on, I don't think the flexibility has any effect on performance.
Interestingly I haven't broken the stock prop on my cub yet and it's had loads of flights, now running 10.8V through it too
