View Full Version : Life expectancy?
Does anybody know how long the standard PZ motor will run for before it starts to loose efficiency? my Spitfire is starting to feel a little sluggish.

should last for yrs!.,.,have you got a bad nicad?,.what about the g/box.any cracks?,,,,or are you runnin lipo power?,.
LiPo and a relatively recent gearbox, I have a suspicion that the spinner may be touching the cowl.

A Brushed motor has a finite life, the brushes in the motor will wear and the commutator inside the motor will oxidise. Running a Lipo will make this much worse. The good news is that these motors are cheap enough to replace.
I had a good look at it this morning, the spinner has definitely been touching the cowl, there was loads of molten plastic there, I think i've got it sorted now by eleminating the play in the main gear shaft which was allowing the prop and spinner to push back into the cowl. :)

Under load, the prop will try to pull away from the rest of the plane because the props rotation issues force at a 90 degree angle (or there abouts) if it doesnt bind under load, this isnt your problem.
It was my problem, just been out in the wind and the rain and it's loads better :)

The down going blade creates the power that pulls your model through the air. Hence all the discussions about gearboxes and props looking like they are offset. This is for good reason. The thrust line (if you like) only passes down one side therefore creating an imbalance of sorts. Radweld, maybe you should explain gyroscopic precession to everyone as I dont want to be labeled a geek again! ;)

yes ish....but we might get really geeky if I explained!
if you ment this as a joke you made me LOL big style......if you didn't I wouldn't worry about it!:D
It basicaly means that the motor and prop are working to well for the body ( will tun the AC in the direction of the turn of the prop) in simple talk....like what we us!:D
