Hi,

I have recently converted my P51 to use lipo's. I have had 3 really good flights but unfortunately I have burnt out my motor (Stock 400). I think this was due to more current being drawn and lack of cooling to the motor. I was thinking of replacing the motor with the F27's 480 sized motor, thinking that this will be a bit more robust and able to take the extra current from the lipo. The only real question I have is will this motor still fit in the same P51 motor mount? Is it the same size as the P51's original 400 sized motor?

Thanks,

Mike

I also forgot to mention regarding cooling. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how I can get more air cooling to the motor as their is only a chin scoop under the spinner to let air in but literally no outlet anywhere around the cowling.

I have tried cutting a small piece out of the bottom of the cowling at the rear to let the passing air escape out the back. I was told you need 3 times the outlet than the inlet of air too keep the motor cool.

Just going to update this post as I have managed to find solutions to both my own problems :p I thought this may help incase others are having the same or similar problems.

I managed to use the F27-B's motor in my mustang. Even though it runs in the opposite direction to the original motors, all you have to do is reverse the leads going from the motor to the ESC (Connect possitive to negative on both leads) and this makes it run the correct direction.

As for cooling, you can cut out the small vented areas either side of the Mustangs cowling at the sides, and also cut a small piece out at the bottom of the cowling at the rear. This allows enough air to escape in order to keep that 480 cool!

I still find that fitting the lipo can be a bit tricky and requires some patience. I find that by tucking the leads back into the body before lowering in the battery fully allows the battery to go fully in and that hatch to close properly.

I can get some pictures of modifications to the cowling, motor leads ect. if needed by anyone. Since, the mustang has been perfect and no overheating problems so far :D
