Hi all,
I've just got into world of RC flying and I have read alot of threads on here and other sites to do with people's adventures and mishaps with their RC planes. As it has made good reading not just in comical sense but informative as well, I thought i'd write a quick flight log of my first few flights for you all to have a read (laugh) at, so here it is.
Bright and early in north Devon, the sun was shining and a 6mph wind made excellent flying conditions so today was the day to maiden my brand new super cub.
I did all the pre-flight checks making sure it was trimmed nicely etc, positioned myself in the middle of a huge farmers field, located the wind direction and gave the cub a firm straight throw into the wind and up she went, veered to the left and nose dived breaking a prop. Gutted! So a quick prop change and re-adjusted the rudder and off I went again, this time good throw and she climbed steadily and strong. Result! I did a few circuits nice and gentle on the controls and then eased off the throttle to bring her for a perfect landing, I even flared her as she gently landed in thick grass. I did this 2 more times until the battery started to die and finished there.
Feeling happy with myself and with a new confidence I decided to go back to the field this time with my wife to show off a little. After my first throw the Cub climbed well and I did a few circuits in front of the missus and even some low fly bys. After another landing and a short break I went to fly again but as the Cub climbed a gust of wind hit her and almost flipped her over, but the ACT seems to have saved me there. I decided to bring her down then as the wind suddenly picked up and the Cub was getting battered about. Unfortently as I came into land I thought I was going to fast so I put full throttle on again and the Cub veered sharply left and colided head first into a farmers fence laced with barbed wire which seemed to shred the plane as bits of white plastic spat out everywhere. I was gutted as I thought the cub was a right off. Luckily I soon realised as I went over to examine the damage that it was not so bad. A broken cowl which was sliced and diced and another prop. That was it thank God. The wing had a small chunck cut but easily repaired but that was it. After asking my wife if she enjoyed watching she said yes but as a spectator its great when you crash. 'Yeah cheers luv'
So that was my first few flights with my first RC plane and I think it was a flight to much. But overall I like to think it as a success. The super cub is truely a great beginners plane and the ACT seems to work although the motor does cut out for a second every now and then. I cant wait for my spare parts to arrive so I can get back out there.
Thanks for reading
