Hi all,

Can anyone explain to me if Lipo batteries are worth the buy, or are the standard upgrade batteries advertised just as good? What benefits do you get from a Lipo battery for example with the Super Cub, FW 190 or Spitfire etc?

Also what is the difference between the standard stock motors and the Brushless motors?

Sorry to ask bone questions but i'm new to all this and see/read people's ugrades and wanted to understand a little more.

Thanks

Hi There

Welcome to r/c flying

The answer in a word to both your battery and motor question is Speed.

Lipo batteries provide more power for less weight and brushless motors are more efficient providing more power/speed for the same voltage and also a longer duration of flight.

Although the warbirds are designed to take lipos I have heard that they benefit form a bit of strengthening especially the wings which is often done by inserting carbon rods into the wings. If you were to use a brushless motor as well then strengthening is a must.

As for the Cub it is a very modifyable plane as its appears is more pliable (you wouldn't want to change the shape or paint scheme of the Spit) so people have put brushless motors, lipos and ailerons on it as well as skis, cameras and redesigned the wings to have more fun with it.

Overall these planes fly very well in stock setup but more speed allows for more fun (and increased danger/thrill of crashing!!!) and with more speed/power more "interesting" manouvers are possible.

Really upgrades just provide more fun/interest and just "because we can"!!! :-)
