Here is my T28, it's got several flights on it, all ok so far. Only anoyance is the instrument cluster keeps falling off and attaching it's self to the pilots head.

Funny you should say that, I have the exact same Problem,I would like to remove the canopy and fit a custom panel but I don' think it is worth all that trouble and the pilot hasn't complained yet. I have submitted pictures of my customised T28, they are in the hangar section, I won't be flying her now until after the conversion as I had a couple of glitches when doing a range check the other week.

First thing I did was rip out the 35Mhz gear and fit Spektrum, what I want to do with this is get some servo extensions and then connect one servo to the aileron port, the other to the aux port, this allows independent control of either aileron, you can even configure them to work as spoilers or flapperons, or simply use aileron differential.

Hi Radweld
Did my first conversion today, my T28 is now 2.4g. I have configured it for dual rate, low rate being 50% throw on all control surfaces, much the same as the stock setting. I have also ordered 2 Spit servos and ESC to convert the FW190 hopefully before the end of week. I 'm very impressed with the Spektrum DX6i and it came with the AR6200,thanks again for all your advice.
Cheers Geoff.

Glad it went ok, I've set up my DX6 for 50% Expodential of the control surfaces. The DX6i is a damn good radio for the money.

Radweld,

Have you attempted to set the alierons up as flaps?

No, I don't think it's a good idea to use Flapperons on this wing as the ailerons are too far out and you very likely to induce tip stall. Its better to actually add flaps and it's quite easy to do. Mine seams to slow down ok though so I'm not that bothered about Flaps.

Why would you want to use ailerons as flaps or flaperons??? Flaperons are very type specific. The T28s wing is large enough for both flaps and ailerons to be accommodated.

Tip stall is a phenomena associated with swept wings. You might notice that the T28 has a tapered wing with what looks like a small amount of washout, (not sure if the real thing has it, but suspect so). This ensures that the wing stalls from the root outwards, not the other way around.

Has anyone managed to spin the T28 yet? I have yet to fly mine, but I have not foundd a suitable area to fly her.

I can't get mine into a flat spin at all. It flies just too nice to be able to do that. It will knife edge though but only by dragging it's rear end lol.

I intend to try spinning mine if I ever get it into the air!

when you say spin,do you mean an axial roll or a flat spin? flat spins are not something you usualy try to do lol.

What are these planes like to take off and land in grass?Thinking about getting one but the field I usually fly at is all grass.

I suppose short grass is ok, I taxied mine on the front lawn no probs. I did a recce out to an old deserted airfield today and found an ideal spot. A dissused taxiway, perfect! No cars, houses, obstacles or people to come to grief on.

I did a test flight with my spit and decided that it was too windy for a maiden flight with my new T28, after learning the hard way so many times before!

Regards the spin.

As the T28 has full 3 axis controls a spin should be possible.

Plenty of altitude

Throttle closed

Maintain level flight

As the aircraft approaches the stall (stick roughly about 75% aft?)

Full rudder deflection in either direction

Immediately followed by full up elevator (stick fully aft now)

Hold the controls in the desired configuration

Aircraft should have entered a spin!

This was the standard spin entry we used when flying the Grob Tutor. I will let you know if it works on the T28 some time.

Oh and the recovery, just releasing the controls to nuetral should do it. If not, throttle still closed, opposite rudder and spin should stop. Recover to a powered climb.

Other than that, a pile of smashed foam and plastic is the end result. Good luck!

I takeoff and land my T28 on grass all the time. The grass is cut pretty short though. I also tried larger wheels (70mm) that helped a fair bit even though the centres were too large for the standard gear. The standard wheels are 45mm with 2mm centres. Worth sourcing in my opinion.

FADEC,

I've tried the exact same entry procedure for a spin on the T28 as you described. Mine will enter a spin well, however it wants to automatically revover after about 1 - 1 1/2 turns. If I continue to hold the controls in the same configuration it only induces a deadly spiral dive

I think the CG is too far foward, although you can "flick" the aircraft into inverted easily. You could try a very small amount of sticky lead under the tailplane to bring the CG back I guess.
